County down has an area pf 2,448 km².Recent statistics show that population is about 516,000 in the county. The county town is Down Patrick, but the largest town is Bangor. It is bordered by County Antrim to the north, Irish Sea to the east and county Armagh to the west. Down has tow peninsulas: Ards Peninsula and Lecale Peninsula. Some of the islands in the Down coast are Mew Island, Light house Island and Copeland islands, all these lie to the north of Ards Peninsula. Some of the small villages with population of less than 1,000 are Annsborough, Ballykinler, Clough, Cloughey, Hill town, Seaforde and Strangford. Some of the large towns in the county are Bangor, Newry and Newtownards.
